1.1 Welcome to Fere Reader and related services (the "Software" or "we"). We value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use Fere Reader on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Web, and other platforms.
1.2 This Policy works together with the Fere Reader Terms of Service. If there is a conflict, the document that is more specific to a feature and more recently updated will prevail for that feature.
Depending on the features you use, we may process:
2.1 Content & reading data: file paths and metadata for imported books (title, author, cover, etc.), reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes, table of contents, and typography preferences.
2.2 Sync-related data (if enabled): library, progress, and notes needed to complete sync, plus connection credentials you provide when configuring WebDAV or similar services.
2.3 Device & runtime environment: device model, OS version, app version, and locale for compatibility, security, and stability. We do not use this for advertising profiles.
2.4 Network metadata: request/response metadata (e.g., error codes, latency) when online features are used, to improve reliability.
3.1 Fere Reader stores library indexes, reading records, and settings in local databases and the file system on your device. Unless you enable network features, this data remains local.
3.2 Mobile and desktop apps may request storage/file access for folders you choose, cover cache, and exported backups. You can manage permissions in system settings; denying some permissions may limit related features.
4.1 If you use WebDAV sync, backup, or pull data from a server, data is transferred over encrypted channels (e.g., HTTPS) between your device and the service you configure. Keep your credentials secure.
4.2 What is synced depends on the features you enable and the third-party service's terms. We are not responsible for practices on third-party servers, but we handle information we collect directly according to this Policy.
5.1 You are responsible for the legality and copyright of books you import. We will not use your full manuscripts for training or public disclosure without your authorization.
5.2 You may remove book records in the app at any time. Whether underlying files are deleted depends on your action and system behavior. You are responsible for backups you export.
6.1 To show reading time, annual goals, and streaks, we aggregate reading activity locally. Unless you use cloud sync, these summaries stay on your device.
7.1 Some versions let you enable LAN transfer or a local HTTP service so you can upload or access your library from a browser on the same network. Use only on trusted networks and turn the service off when not needed.
7.2 This is for personal multi-device access, not public hosting on the internet.
8.1 To diagnose crashes and compatibility issues, we may collect app logs (which may include stack traces and module names). We aim to avoid unnecessary personal data in logs.
9.1 When you use the Web version, the browser may use local storage (e.g., LocalStorage, IndexedDB) for your library and preferences, similar to desktop local storage.
9.2 If cookies or similar technologies are used, they are mainly for session and preferences. You can manage them in browser settings.
10.1 We do not sell your personal information to unrelated third parties for marketing. We may disclose information when required by law, by competent authorities, or when necessary to protect users or the public.
10.2 When we use processors (e.g., cloud storage, analytics hosting), we require them to meet confidentiality and security obligations.
11.1 We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data, but absolute security cannot be guaranteed. Use strong passwords and protect your devices physically.
11.2 We retain information only as long as needed for the purposes in this Policy. When you delete data or uninstall the app, we delete or anonymize it as designed and as law allows, unless longer retention is required.
Where applicable law allows, you may access, correct, delete, withdraw consent, or export your personal information. See in-app Settings or help for options. Contact us using the details below if you have questions.
If you are a minor, read this Policy and use the Software with a guardian's guidance. Guardians should manage device permissions and guide appropriate use.
14.1 We may update this Policy and will notify you through the app or website when appropriate. Continued use means you accept the updated Policy.
