1. About Us

Fere Reader is a cross-platform ebook reader built for deep reading, available on Windows, macOS, Web, Android, and iOS. In this Agreement, "you" or "User" means any individual who uses the Software and related services; "we" means the developer and operator of Fere Reader.

2. Purpose & Scope

2.1 These Terms of Service (this "Agreement") are a legally binding agreement between you and Fere Reader regarding your use of the Software. This Agreement works together with the Fere Reader Privacy Policy as the complete legal framework for your use of the services, but each applies independently.

2.2 Please read this Agreement carefully before using the Software, especially highlighted terms. By downloading, installing, or using Fere Reader, you agree that you have read, understood, and accepted this Agreement in full. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.

2.3 We may revise this Agreement as laws, our business, or user protection needs change. We will notify you through in-app notices, website announcements, or other reasonable means. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Agreement.

3. Eligibility

3.1 You must be a natural person with full legal capacity. If you are under 18, use the Software only with a guardian's consent and supervision. The guardian is responsible for the minor's use and consequences.

4. Software License

4.1 Fere Reader grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, non-transferable, revocable license for personal, non-commercial use in accordance with this Agreement.

4.2 This license does not transfer ownership of the Software or any part of it to you.

4.3 You may not use this license for commercial purposes, including selling, reselling, renting the Software, or reverse engineering, decompiling, or circumventing it (except where expressly permitted by law).

5. Services

5.1 Local reading & library
Fere Reader supports local reading of EPUB, PDF, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, TXT, and related formats, plus library management, search, sort, collections, and grid/list views. Your books and most data stay on your device by default.

5.2 Typography & reading experience
You can adjust font, size, line height, letter spacing, margins, background, and themes; choose page-turn animations; and use highlights, underlines, notes, bookmarks, and in-book search.

5.3 Sync & backup
You may optionally configure WebDAV to sync progress and notes, or export a full local backup. Sync relies on third-party services you choose; their availability and security depend on those services and your configuration.

5.4 Import & transfer
Desktop supports drag-and-drop import; all platforms support LAN transfer to upload books from other devices. Sync delays or failures may occur due to network or device issues. We work to improve stability but are not liable for third-party network conditions.

5.5 Reading stats
The Software may record reading time, streaks, and annual goals locally for your personal use.

5.6 Core features of Fere Reader are free — no ads, no subscription. If optional paid features are offered in the future, we will describe them separately and they take effect only after you confirm.

5.7 We may adjust features as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated in advance when reasonably possible.

6. User Content & Copyright

6.1 You are solely responsible for the copyright and legality of ebooks you import, store, or read with Fere Reader. We do not review the copyright status of imported files.

6.2 You bear all legal liability arising from importing or using infringing or unlawful content. We may remove content or restrict access upon valid rights notices or when clearly unlawful content is identified.

6.3 Bookmarks, notes, highlights, and similar content you create remain yours. You must ensure such content does not infringe others' rights.

7. Acceptable Use

7.1 You must comply with applicable laws and must not use Fere Reader for unlawful or improper activities, including but not limited to:

  1. Uploading or distributing content that is illegal, harmful, obscene, violent, defamatory, or infringing;
  2. Unauthorized access to or interference with computer systems or networks;
  3. Cracking, reverse engineering, or copying the Software or protected content;
  4. Commercial operation or redistribution of the Software.

7.2 If your breach causes loss to Fere Reader or third parties, you are liable for compensation. We may restrict features or discontinue support depending on severity, and cooperate with authorities as required.

8. Intellectual Property

8.1 Fere Reader retains all intellectual property in the Software, including UI design, code, trademarks, and documentation. Except as expressly licensed, you may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works.

8.2 If you believe content in the Software infringes your rights, contact us under Section 13 with proof of ownership, a description of the infringement, and valid contact details. We will review and take appropriate action within a reasonable time.

9. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

9.1 The Software is provided "as is." We use reasonable efforts to maintain stability and security but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

9.2 To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fere Reader is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential damages, or loss of expected benefits.
9.3 You should regularly back up ebooks, reading records, annotations, and notes. Fere Reader is not liable for data loss due to failure to back up, third-party service failures, or force majeure, though we continue to improve backup and export capabilities.

9.4 These limits do not apply to damages caused by our willful misconduct or gross negligence, or where law prohibits such limits.

10. Privacy

How we handle your information is described in the Fere Reader Privacy Policy. By using the Software, you acknowledge that you have read and understood that policy.

11. Changes & Termination

11.1 You may stop using the Software and uninstall at any time. Whether local data remains depends on your actions and system behavior.

11.2 If you materially breach this Agreement, we may stop providing updates or related support, without affecting your continued use of versions already installed locally (unless law requires otherwise).

11.3 If we discontinue maintenance for a specific platform, we will notify you in advance when reasonably possible and provide data export guidance where feasible.

12. Governing Law & Disputes

12.1 This Agreement is governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China (excluding Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan for this purpose).

12.2 Disputes arising from or relating to this Agreement should first be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, either party may bring suit in a court of competent jurisdiction.
